BTD6 Banana Farm Comparison – Farm Guide – Which One Is Best? – Updated to v18.0!

Since I’ve done analysis on BTD5’s banana farm, I’ve decided to do the same for BTD6.

Here’s my data that I’ve created: BTD6 Banana Farm Spreadsheet (it’s up to date with version 8.0.0)

The BTD6 Banana Farm is interesting, as it is similar to the BTD5 banana farm with a few quirks. The description for the BTD6 Banana Farm reads:

Generates Bananas each round that convert the game money to spend on more stuff.

BTD5 vs BTD6 Banana Farms

Banana farms in general are much less efficient in BTD6 than in BTD5. Here are some comparisons.

The BTD5 4-2 Banana Factory costs a total of $24,440 on medium difficulty, and creates $3000 per round, meaning it pays itself off in 8.13 rounds. The BTD6 equivalent, 4-2-0 costs $25,850 and produces $1875 per round on medium with no monkey knowledge. This means that it takes 13.79 rounds to pay itself off. The 5-2-0 in BTD6 costs a whopping $135,850 and only makes $5,625 per round, meaning that it takes 24.15 rounds to pay itself off.

Similarly, the most efficient bank in BTD5 was able to pay itself off in 7 rounds (the 0-4, 1-4, and 2-4 all paid themselves off in 7 rounds). However, the most efficient bank (with no monkey knowledge) in BTD6 is able to pay itself off in 10 rounds (the 0-3-0, 1-3-0, and 2-3-0 upgrades all pay themselves off in 10 rounds).

Certain upgrades from BTD5 have been passed onto BTD6’s Banana Farms. For example, the 1-0 upgrade More Bananas costs $300 for adding 2 additional bananas. However, in BTD6, the same 1-0-0 Increased Production upgrade costs $500 for the same effect.

The 2-0 upgrade Banana Plantation costs $1400 for adding 7 bananas per round (from 6 to 13). This means that each additional banana costs $200. However, the 2-0-0 Greater Production upgrade costs $600 and only adds 2 more bananas, which means each banana costs $300. No BTD6 banana farm is nearly as efficient as BTD5’s banana farms.

The Monkey Farmer

The Monkey Farmer also works differently in BTD6 than in BTD5. In BTD5, the bananas went straight to the farmer after being deployed by the banana farm. In BTD6, the bananas touch the ground first before going to the farmer. This means that in BTD5, you were able to place the farm half outside of the farmer’s range, but in BTD6, the entire farm and its range has to be inside of the monkey farmer.

The farmer does have a monkey knowledge upgrade, though, that makes its range bigger.
HERE are the comparison photos.

The BTD6 Banana Farm

Note: All prices are done on medium difficulty with no monkey knowledge, unless otherwise stated.

In BTD6, there are 3 upgrade paths for banana farms. Banana farms on medium with no monkey knowledge cost $1,250. With the Flat Pack Buildings monkey knowledge (2% discount on farms), the 0-0-0 farm costs $1,225. With the Flat Pack Buildings knowledge and the Banana Farm Subsidy ($100 off the first banana farm of the game), the 0-0-0 banana farm costs $1,225.

The 0-0-0 Farm creates 4 bunches of bananas worth $20 per round, meaning that it produces $80/round, taking 15.63 rounds to pay itself off.

btd6 banana farm upgrade paths sirknightj

First Upgrade Path

The first path contains 5 upgrades.

Increased Production

This upgrade description reads “Grows 2 extra Banana bunches per round.”

The upgrade costs $500, meaning that each additional banana costs $250. This farm now makes 6 bunches of bananas. The 1-0-0 farm is more efficient than the 0-0-0 farm, taking 14.58 rounds to pay itself off. The 1-0-0 used to be the most efficient banana farm, until it was recently overtaken by the 4-2-0 farm.

The extra bananas from this upgrade and from greater production affect the monkey bank (0-3-0) and the marketplace (0-0-3).

Greater Production

This upgrade description reads “Grows 2 MORE extra Banana bunches per round.

The upgrade costs $600, meaning that each additional banana costs $300. This farm now makes 8 bunches of bananas. The 2-0-0 farm is less efficient than the 1-0-0 farm but more efficient than the 0-0-0 farm, taking 14.69 rounds to pay itself off.

Banana Plantation

This upgrade description reads “Grows 16 Banana bunches per round.”

The upgrade costs $3,000, but used to cost $3,400. This upgrade effectively increases the banana production by 8, since the 2-0-0 farm creates 8 bananas. Therefore, each additional banana costs us $425. Hence, the efficiency of this banana farm is much lower than the 0-0-0 farm, dropping to 17.97 rounds to pay itself off.

Banana Research Facility

This upgrade description reads “Produces 5 large Banana crates every round worth $300 each.”

The upgrade used to cost $22,000, but was reduced to $19,000 which is still $5,000 more than its BTD5 counterpart. The 4-0-0 farm produces $1,500 per round and pays itself off in 16.50 rounds (total cost: $24,750), which is much less effective than the 4-0 farm in BTD5 which pays itself off in 9.95 rounds.

The 4-2-0 farm pays itself off in 13.57 rounds (Cost: $25,450; Income/Round: $1,875), while the BTD5 4-2 farm pays itself off in 8.13 rounds. The one in BTD6 is about half as efficient.

Banana Central

This upgrade description reads “You want Banana? We have Banana!” which doesn’t really tell us too much.

The upgrade costs $110,000 (5-0-0 costs $134,350 in total) and it produces 5 crates of Bananas worth $900 each and makes all Banana Research Facilities in its radius’ crates worth $320 instead of $300. This 5-0-0 farm produces $4,500 per round (5-2-0 makes $5,625/round), taking an incredible 29.86 rounds to pay itself off (while the 5-2-0 takes 24.08 rounds).

Second Upgrade Path

Long Life Bananas

The upgrade description reads “Bananas last 30 seconds before rotting instead of 15.

This upgrade costs $300. Since bananas are usually picked up the moment they are dropped, this is pretty much a useless upgrade.

Valuable Bananas

The upgrade description reads “Bananas are worth 25% more cash per bunch.”

This upgrade costs $800, but only increases banana worth by 25%. The 0-2 upgrade in BTD5 costs $4,000, but increases banana worth by 50%. This upgrade affects the other paths.

It makes the bananas worth $25 instead of $20. This means that the 0-2-0 farm makes $100 per round, the 1-2-0 makes $150 per round, the 2-2-0 makes $200 per round, the 3-2-0 makes $400 per round, the 4-2-0 makes $1,875 per round, and the 5-2-0 makes $5,625 per round. This drastically improves the efficiency of the farms, notably the 4-2-0 farm takes 15.39 rounds to pay itself off and the 5-2-0 farm takes 26.46 rounds to pay itself off. The 3-2-0 farm is pretty much the same, and it hurts the efficiency of the 0-0-0, the 1-2-0, and the 2-2-0 farms.

Monkey Bank

The upgrade description reads “Generates money each round and stores it in the bank. Earns 15% interest each round.” It used to cost $2,800, then got changed to $3,400, but now costs $3,300.

If you want to buy a 2-3-0 bank right away, it will cost you $6,750 on medium difficulty.

Banks in general are more efficient than the 1st path and the 3rd path, however, they require you to wait until the bank is full to get the most efficiency out of the bank. The other two paths give you “steady” income, while banks give you “burst” income.

Additionally, the other two paths are just “build and forget” while the bank you have to check back on it every 12-14 rounds.

The bank is affected by the 1st path, meaning that the 0-3-0 bank generates $240+15% per round, rounded down, since the bank is stingy. The 1-3-0 bank generates $280+15% per round, and the 2-3-0 bank generates $320+15% per round. The 2-3-0 bank is the most efficient bank of all.

Banks will continue to put additional money into itself until it hits its max capacity of $7,000. You can withdraw at any time, but it is recommended to wait to hit (or almost hit) the limit to be the most efficient.

The 1-3-0 and 2-3-0 banks take 10 rounds rounded up to pay themselves off, while the 0-3-0 takes 11 rounds to pay itself off, with no monkey knowledge.

Below is a table of the amount of money in a bank at the end of the round.

Round Number 0-3-0 1-3-0 2-3-0
1 $276 $322 $368
2 $593 $692 $791
3 $957 $1117 $1277
4 $1376 $1606 $1836
5 $1858 $2168 $2479
6 $2412 $2815 $3218
7 $3094 $3559 $4068
8 $3782 $4414 $5046
9 $4625 $5398 $6170
10 $5594 $6529 $7000
11 $6709 $7000 $7000
12 $7000 $7000 $7000
13 $7000 $7000 $7000

IMF Loan

The upgrade description reads “IMF Loan ability: Gives you $10,000 but you have to pay it back over time.” It costs $7,500, and used to cost $12,000.

This bank produces the exact same amount of money as the Monkey Bank upgrade, which means all this bank does is give you loans of $10,000, which you have to pay back.

Additionally, this bank increases the inner capacity to $10,000 from $7,000.

Here’s a table to show how much money is in the bank at the end of each round.

Round Number 0-3-0 1-3-0 2-3-0
1 $276 $322 $368
2 $593 $692 $791
3 $957 $1117 $1277
4 $1376 $1606 $1836
5 $1858 $2168 $2479
6 $2412 $2815 $3218
7 $3094 $3559 $4068
8 $3782 $4414 $5046
9 $4625 $5398 $6170
10 $5594 $6529 $7463
11 $6709 $7830 $8950
12 $7991 $9326 $10000
13 $9465 $10000 $10000
14 $10000 $10000 $10000
How Loans Work

Monkey LoansThe 0-4-0 upgrade will give you an ability to take out a loan of $10,000. This $10,000 loan is able to help you purchase four 2-0-0 farms, which can help quite a bit. Upon clicking the loan ability, a red counter will appear next to your money counter. Here’s what that looks like:

BTD6 Monkey LoanYou’re not able to start another loan from the same bank until you’ve paid it off. Basically, the game will take away half of the money you earned starting the instant you click the loan ability. Half of the money you earn from popping, selling, farming bananas, etc, will go to the bank, and the other half will go to your pocket until you’ve paid off all your loan.

More Than One Loan At A Time?

You need two x-4-x banks to take out more than one loan at a time. When clicking the two abilities, the first loan will drop you +$10,000 in your money counter, and -$10,000 in the red. However, once you use the second loan ability while the first one is active, you will get +$5,000 in your pocket and -$15,000 in the red. This is because the $10,000 cash injection you should’ve pocketed from the second loan goes to paying the loan of the first bank, so the debt is decreased by $5,000, and $5,000 goes into your pocket, while the 2nd bank still charges you $10,000, so your total debt becomes $15,000.

The money that goes to the loan will pay off the first bank you loaned before the second bank starts receiving the money you owe. For example, if you take two loans one after the other from two different banks, the first bank you owe $5,000. The second bank you still owe $10,000.

This means that from $15,000, once your debt counter reaches $10,000, you’ve paid off the first bank and the second bank will start receiving your money.  Loans are paid one at a time. The 50% cash reduction doesn’t stack so you get for example 25% or 0% money. Once you reach $10,000, you’re able to take a loan from the first bank again as you pay off the second bank. However, don’t forget that this is not worth it, since the bank will only give you $5,000, since half the money goes to the second bank, and the first bank will still charge you $10,000.

Therefore, only take one loan at a time, and you only need one loan building, no more, since it earns the exact same amount of money as a normal bank.

Monkey-Nomics

The upgrade description reads “For when you’re too big to fail…” and it costs $100,000.

This bank’s ability just gives you $10,000 whenever you use it, with no interest. This means that you have to use the ability 10 times to pay itself off, which will take a while.

If you never touch the ability, the 0-5-0 bank takes 162 rounds to pay itself off, the 1-5-0 bank takes 151 rounds to pay itself off, and the 2-5-0 bank takes 140 rounds to pay itself off.

Third Upgrade Path

EZ Collect

The upgrade description reads “The collect radius of taps around these Bananas is larger, making them easier to collect.” and costs $250.

This doesn’t really help you out, since all you need to do is have your finger to swipe across the screen. Alternatively, you can just hold your finger on the screen and it will act like a monkey farmer as long as your finger is held. Additionally, this doesn’t seem to make a big impact to the monkey farmers.

Banana Salvage

The upgrade description reads “Uncollected Bananas auto-collect for half the amount.” and costs $200.

This doesn’t help you out if you already have a monkey farmer. If the money is halved, then that means the banana farms will pay themselves off in double the time, thus reducing the efficiency of the farm. The only reason you would get these two upgrades on the third path rather than the second path is only if you’re going to go for the Marketplace upgrades.

Marketplace

The upgrade description reads “Generates money each round and adds it to your total. No fuss.” and used to cost $2,600, but now costs $2,900.

Note that in the v18.0 update, this farm now produces 16 bananas per round, instead of 12.

So, how this 0-0-3 farm works is that it generates 16 bunches of bananas worth $20 each, totaling to $320 per round. This farm is unique in the fact that it does not produce the bananas that have to be collected. The bananas generated are automatically placed in your balance, meaning no farmers or tapping is needed.

This farm in total costs $4,600 and generates $320/round, meaning that it takes 14.38 rounds to pay itself off.

Should you get the 2-0-3 upgrade or the 0-2-3 upgrade?

The 1st upgrade and 2nd upgrade paths both affect this farm. The 1-0-0 upgrade increases the income to $360 (18 × $20) and the 2-0-0 increases the income to $400 (20 × $20).

The 0-1-0 upgrade is useless, and the 0-2-0 upgrade increases the income to $400 (16 × $25). Considering that 2-0-3 farm and the 0-2-3 farm both cost exactly $5,700 and both make $400/round, it does not matter which farm you get… However if you have the More Valuable Bananas monkey knowledge unlocked, you should go for the 0-2-3 upgrade because you’ll make $26 per banana instead of $25, meaning that you’ll make $416/round instead.

Without monkey knowledge, these farms take 14.25 rounds to pay themselves off. However, with the flat pack buildings + more valuable bananas, the 0-2-3 takes 13.44 rounds to pay itself off.

More Lives

The main perk of these farms is that if you have the monkey knowledge that grants additional lives per round, these extra lives can stack up. However, if you want to go life-stacking, you should consider the support chinook heli-pilots, because those grant way more than 1 life per round.

Central Market

This upgrade description reads “Earns heaps of money each round and gives Merchantmen +10% income.” and costs $18,000.

What this upgrade does is that the farm generates the exact same amount of bananas as the previous upgrade (marketplace) but also gives a $900 bonus at the end of the round.

Note: This bonus has been removed in the v18.0 update. It’s replaced with changing the value of bananas from $20 to $70, meaning that it generates $20 less per round than it used to.

0-0-4 farm costs $19,600 in total generating $1,120 per round. 17.50 rounds to pay itself off.

2-0-4 farm costs $20,700 in total generating $1,400 per round. 14.79 rounds to pay itself off.

0-2-4 farm costs $20,700 in total generating $1,392 per round. 14.87 rounds to pay itself off.

If you have the valuable bananas upgrade, each banana will be worth $87 per, and if you have the More Valuable Bananas monkey knowledge, each banana will be $91 per. Thus, the 0-2-4 farm will be more efficient.

Monkey Wall Street

This upgrade description reads “Hub of Monkey trades earns colossal income each round.” and costs $60,000.

What this upgrade does is similar to the Central Market. This earns the same amount of bananas as the marketplace upgrade. All this upgrade grants is a $4,000 bonus at the end of each round.

0-0-5 farm costs $79,600 and makes $5,140 per round. 15.55 rounds to pay itself off.
(16 bananas @$70 each, with a $4,000 bonus at the end of each round)

2-0-5 farm costs $80,700 and makes $5,400 per round. 14.94 rounds to pay itself off.
(20 bananas @$70 each, with a $4,000 bonus at the end of each round)

0-2-5 farm costs $80,700 and makes $5,392 per round. 14.97 rounds to pay itself off.
(16 bananas @$87 each, with a $4,000 bonus at the end of each round).

Again, if you have the More Valuable Bananas monkey knowledge, the 0-2-5 farm will be more efficient, generating $5,456 per round.

Newest v18.0 Conclusion

With More Valuable Bananas and Flat Pack Buildings on Medium difficulty:

  • 0-3-0/2-3-0 tied at 10 rounds to pay itself off
    • The 2-3-0 is more efficient because of the space it saves.
  • 4-2-0 farm at 12.79 rounds
    • Cost: $24,975; Income/Round: $1,950
  • 0-2-3 farm at 13.44 rounds
    • Cost: $5,590; Income/Round: $416
  • 1-0-3 farm at 13.89 rounds
    • Cost: $5,000; Income/Round: $360
  • 0-2-4 farm at 13.94 rounds
    • Cost: $20,290; Income/Round: $1,456
  • 2-0-4 farm at 13.98 rounds
    • Cost: $20,290; Income/Round: $1,400

In short, the banks are still the best source of income, followed by the 4-2-0 farm. However, it costs a lot of money, so get banks to save up for the 4-2-0. A fun fact is that the 0-2-5 farm is the quickest one to pay itself off, at 14.50 rounds, if you don’t use the x-5-x bank ability. Marketplaces have become more viable in the v18.0 update, and they also generate extra lives, which might come in handy. However, as there is no bonus for beating maps no lives lost, there really isn’t much of a use for the marketplaces from an efficiency standpoint, even though they just got buffed.

Archived Conclusions

I don’t like deleting stuff, so all previous conclusions can be found here.

Before v2.0 Conclusion

Therefore, the top 6 most efficient farms used to be:

  • 0-3-0/2-3-0 tied at 10 rounds to pay itself off
  • 1-0-0 farm at 14.58 rounds
    • Cost: $1,750; Income/Round: $120
  • 2-0-0 farm at 14.69 rounds
    • Cost: $2,350; Income/Round: $160
  • 4-2-0 farm at 15.39 rounds
    • Cost: $28,850; Income/Round: $1,875
  • 0-0-0 farm at 15.63 rounds
    • Cost: $1,250; Income/Round: $80
  • 2-0-3 farm at 16.88 rounds
    • Cost: $5,400; Income/Round: $320

After v2.0 Conclusion

  • The 2.0.0 update increased the price of marketplaces, and decreased the price of the Banana Research Facility.
  • 0-3-0/2-3-0 tied at 10 rounds to pay itself off
  • 4-2-0 farm at 13.79 rounds
    • Cost: $25,850; Income/Round: $1,875
  • 1-0-0 farm at 14.58 rounds
    • Cost: $1,750; Income/Round: $120
  • 2-0-0 farm at 14.69 rounds
    • Cost: $2,350; Income/Round: $160
  • 0-0-0 farm at 15.63 rounds
    • Cost: $1,250; Income/Round: $80
  • 4-0-0 farm at 16.50 rounds
    • Cost: $24,750; Income/Round: $1,500
  • 3-2-0 farm at 17.13 rounds
    • Cost: $6,850; Income/Round: $400
  • 2-2-0 farm at 17.25 rounds
    • Cost: $3,450; Income/Round: $200
  • 2-0-3 marketplace at 17.81 rounds
    • Cost: $5,700; Income/Round: $320

After v8.0 Conclusion

  • The only price changes since v2.0.0 was a decrease in the price of the IMF Loan and a decrease in the price of the Banana Plantation.
  • In v4.0, the x-3-x monkey bank’s max capacity was reduced from $10,000 to $7,000, while the x-4-x monkey bank’s max capacity stays the same.
    • Despite this change, the x-3-x banks still all take 10 rounds to pay themselves off…
  • Exactly the same as the v2.0.0 conclusion, except the 4-2-0 farm pays itself off in 13.57 rounds instead of 13.79 rounds.
    • Cost: $25,450; Income/Round: $1,875

  1. It’d be worth it to go for the central market (0-0-4) if you have a lot of merchants (monkey buccaneer) right?

I have a water map and each pirate (I have roughly 40 of them) gives me $900 each round in addition to my 2-0-5 banana farm.

    Reply
    • Yup. Don’t forget that the 0-0-5 Trade Empire Buccaneer increases the amount of money earned by merchantmen by $20 per merchantman. So if you have 2 0-0-3 Buccaneers along with your 0-0-5, then the 0-0-3’s will make $240 each per round, and your 0-0-5 will make $800 per round. The cap for the increase is 20 for the 0-0-3’s, so you at best, can have 20 0-0-3’s making $600 each, and the rest will make $200 each. Adding on your 0-0-4 farm will make it even better.

  2. Thank you for the in depth analysis. Very helpful. I wish the final upgrades would be more profitable since they are solely needed for the true sun god upgrade.

    Reply
    • The final upgrades are not very efficient, but if you are going really late, they are space efficient. They make more money for the same space. Also, the 5th tier bank can make A LOT of money every round if you stall with sabotage ninjas, tornado druids etc. because the 5th tier bank ability has no payback and can be used twice per round(assuming the round lasts long enough). This brings the money per round up to over $20,000.

  3. I realized that you didn’t account for bloon pops or end of round bonuses. I realized that that would be harder but this means it would take less time for the banks to be paid off.

    Reply
    • The reason I didn’t do that is because the bank doesn’t pop any bloons, and the end of round bonus is given to you even if you don’t have a bank. Here, I’m only accounting for the money the bank creates.

  4. Wait, since 0-4-0 banks can hold more money than 0-3-0 banks, cant they take better advantage of their 15 % intrest and generate more money? I mean its a few extra rounds of 1000s of dollars and i think its worth considering into how much value you get out of it

  5. It may be only a minor effect, but the banks going from $7,000 capacity to $10,000 does actually impact their income if the 15% interest tooltip is true—since that means the money can spend more time compounding interest. In your chart, we see that we have got $7k on the 10th round, or $700/round, with the 2-3-0, while with the 2-4-0 we have got $10k on the 12th round, or $833/round. So it is better, but only by $133/round or so (depending on when you collect) on average. And if I haven’t done a brain fart, the marginal cost of $8k takes 60 rounds to make up at $133/round. So if space is not an issue, not worth it vs. more farms.

    Reply
    • I’m new to this, but I think if you use the monkey knowledge to allow deposits, You can withdraw 10,000, then immediately put back 5,000 to make 15% per round. I haven’t done the payback math, but 15% of 7k (as an average) is $1j/round, so it seems like it’s the fastest paying option.
